Saaren Taika Sustainability Report 2024

Saaren Taika Sustainability Report 2024

Openness, progress and practical action

Sustainability is part of everything we do at Saaren Taika. It guides how we develop our products, how we care for the environment and how we support the people around us. In 2024, we compiled our first full Sustainability Report, offering a clear overview of where we stand today and where we are heading next. We want to communicate openly about both our achievements and the areas we are continuously improving.

Safe and high-quality products

Our product development is based on scientific evidence and thorough testing. Every product goes through extensive safety assessments and required tests, including microbiological testing, stability testing and, for sun care products, both in vitro and in vivo evaluations. This ensures that our products are effective yet gentle, even for sensitive and challenging skin. Our commitment is further supported by strict GMP standards and regular on-site visits to our trusted manufacturing partners in Portugal, Poland and Finland.

In 2024, we also carried out OECD 301 F biodegradability testing on three of our products. Kamomilla Shea Cream, Grapefruit Cleaning soap and Fresh Laundry Vinegar were all confirmed to be naturally biodegradable.

All products verified as biodegradable so far are listed on our Finnish website:

Environmental responsibility as part of daily work

We continuously aim to reduce the environmental impact of our operations. At our Perniö factory and office, we use 100% renewable energy, and our own solar power system produced more than 13,000 kWh of electricity in 2024. Our production processes are designed to ensure that no waste or side streams are generated.

Our packaging strategy focuses on recyclability and reducing plastic use. In 2024, our customers recycled 5,730 packages using the Bower app. In our own production, we use glass whenever possible and limit plastic to specific cases where it is unavoidable.

We also calculated our company’s carbon footprint for the first time. The results help us target emission reductions where they have the greatest impact and monitor progress over time. Our total emissions for 2023 were 1033.24 t CO₂e, with the majority coming from purchased goods and services.

Social responsibility and local impact

Saaren Taika is a Finnish family family business employing around 20 people and manufacturing a significant portion of its products in Perniö. We are committed to providing a safe, flexible and supportive workplace. In 2024, our employee satisfaction level was over 90%, and the working atmosphere was described as joyful and adaptable.

Supporting our local community is important to us. In 2024, we donated a total of €13,665 to Women’s Line Finland and provided school supplies and grocery gift cards to families in need. We also support local organisations and initiatives, including sports clubs and village communities in the Perniö region.

Continuous learning and development

Sustainability is not a campaign for us; it is a way of operating. We are not striving for perfection, but for better decisions every day. In 2024, we reviewed our practices with a critical eye, improved the clarity of our communication and strengthened quality control. The Sustainability Report sets the foundation for our future goals and helps us become an even more transparent and responsible company.

Thank you for being part of our journey

We are grateful for every customer and partner who supports our work. Sustainability is a shared journey, and we continue to develop our practices openly and consistently year after year. The Sustainability Report offers a clear look at where we are now and what we aim to build next.
